Tips on how to clean your Steam Iron

As there are countless wrinkle proof materials available on the market, people do not iron as frequently as they did in the past. Still, a good steam iron is essential in any home. If you fail to use distilled water with the steam iron, the steam pores will be blocked eventually and will fail to deliver the right amount of steam.

To ensure your steam iron is always in a perfect condition and that you are able to adequately iron your clothes and fabrics, the iron needs to be regularly cleaned.

You should start the cleaning the residues from the inside of the machine. Thus, the white deposits will be eliminated through the holes of the underside, element that will be cleaned only in the end. The cleaning process of the steam iron involves the use of cookie stand, vinegar, salt, wax paper and a towel and tooth brush that you no longer use.

Place the towel where you regularly iron and place the rack on the top of it. Put white vinegar in the water tank of the iron and put it on the rack. Select a high steam temperature setting and wait for the vinegar to evaporate completely. Refill the water tank with regular water and repeat the previous step to eliminate any vinegar or deposits that could still be in the iron.

Once the sole of the iron is cool, get rid of the white residues from the pores using and old tooth brush. In the case of persistent residue, try some baking soda or repeat the process with the vinegar and water.

Next, you can proceed to the bottom of the steam iron. Replace the rack with some sheets of newspaper and drop cup of salt on it. Then, run the cooled sole plate over the salt a few times making sure all residues have been completely eliminated. Wipe the bottom of the iron with a damp, clean cloth.

Once the steam iron is properly cleaned, you need the wax paper for a smooth finish allowing an easy glide of the iron over the clothing. Get rid of the old newspaper and salt by dumping them. Heat the iron one more time. Place about eighteen inches of wax paper on the previously used old towel. Run the heated iron over the wax paper a few times for the metal plate to acquire a really smooth surface.
